Alan Gibson, PhD
Principal Investigator, Complex Movements Laboratory
Dr. Gibson received his PhD from New York University in 1973. His thesis work was mentored by Dr. Michael Gazzaniga, who is famous for his studies of the split brain human. Dr. Gibson then went on to postdoctoral study with Dr. Mitchell Glickstein at Brown University. His work at Brown focused on how the cerebellum uses visual information to control movement. Dr. Gibson continued studies of cerebellar control of movement as a Research Associate with Dr. James Houk at Northwestern University Medical School.
In 1985, Dr. Gibson accepted a staff position in the Division of Neurobiology at Barrow Neurological Institute. The Gibson laboratory studies how the nervous system controls movements and how various diseases of the nervous system affect this control.
