Barrow is a leader in the development of new diagnostic imaging techniques. For example, the staff at Barrow developed a magnetic resonance imaging procedure to diagnose carotid artery blockage that is now used in more than 1,000 hospitals worldwide.
Barrow researchers also have developed a new magnetic resonance imaging technique that allows technicians to obtain clear images regardless of patient motion. The technique is called PROPELLER, which stands for periodically rotated overlapping parallel lines with enhanced reconstruction. It is being incorporated into new medical equipment by a medical equipment manufacturer. Scientists at Barrow believe that PROPELLER technology will help drive the future of magnetic resonance imaging.
