The Barrow MDA Clinic, supported by the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), is recognized for its patient care services, education, and support programs. The clinic provides care for patients with neuromuscular diseases (NMDs) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
The Barrow MDA Clinic coordinates comprehensive physical and psychosocial care for the complex needs of NMD and ALS patients through diagnostic testing; regular follow-up evaluations; development of individualized patient care plans; disease education for patients and families; and referrals to support groups, resources, and educational programs.
Research
The Laboratory of Neuromuscular Disorders conducts clinical and basic research on the molecular genetics of hereditary neurological and neuromuscular disorders. The goal of this research is to improve treatment and to identify the causes of these devastating diseases that can result in significant disability or death.
