Dr. Peter Steinmetz is Director of Neuroengineering Program at Barrow. He attended college at the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology and earned his M.D. and Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from the Johns Hopkins University Medical School in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Steinmetz then completed post-doctoral fellowships at the Zanvyl Krieger Mind-Brain Institute in Baltimore, Maryland and California Institute of Technology. Before joining the Barrow, he was Assistant Professor of Bioengineering at the University of Minnesota and Associate Professor of Bioengineering at Arizona State University.
Dr. Steinmetz is also the Principal Investigator of the Neuroengineering/Human Neurophysiology Laboratory. His primary research interests are applying mathematical and engineering principles to understand human cognition and to improve bioelectric therapies, such as deep brain stimulation. He is author or co-author on more than 15 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
