Since launching in 2003, the Hypothalamic Hamartoma program at St. Joseph’s Barrow Neurological Institute has become the marquee program in the world for this rare cause of epilepsy. With the leadership of Dr. John Kerrigan and the pioneering surgery techniques of Dr. Harold Rekate more than 130 patients from around the world have come to St. Joseph’s for this life-saving surgery.

“This surgery is a giant leap forward in epilepsy treatment,” says Dr. Kerrigan. “We are currently improving our surgical techniques, refining them and learning from each case we do.” Dr. Kerrigan’s Hypothalamic Hamartoma Research Program includes multiple clinical and laboratory projects involving investigators at Barrow and partnering institutions.
