Barrow and PCH Combine Pediatric Services

We are pleased to tell you that CHW/St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and Phoenix Children’s Hospital are joining their pediatric programs. Starting June 1, 2011, most patients age 14 and younger who have been seeing doctors at Barrow Neurological Institute and St. Joseph’s for medical care and hospital stays will now be seen at Phoenix Children’s.

The following Barrow clinics and services will be moving to Phoenix Children’s:

  • Barrow Pediatric Neurology
  • In-patient Pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
  • Pediatric Neurological Rehabilitation
  • Pediatric Neurointensive Care Unit
  • Pediatric Neuroradiology

The following Barrow clinics and services will remain at Barrow and St. Joseph's:

  • Children’s Cleft and Craniofacial Center
  • B.R.A.I.N.S. Program
  • The Children’s Center for Neuropsychological Rehabilitation
  • Pediatric CyberKnife and GammaKnife

What does this mean for me and my family?

Barrow clinicians will continue to see patients age 15 and older, and will treat all patients who come to the Emergency Department. If children under 15 need to be admitted into a hospital, they will be transferred to Phoenix Children’s.

In addition, St. Joseph’s will keep all of its Labor and Delivery services so mothers can deliver their babies at St. Joseph’s and, if needed, have babies cared for in the neonatal intensive care unit. If babies require surgery or go home and then need follow up care, they will see doctors at Phoenix Children’s.

St. Joseph’s will continue to see pediatric patients on an outpatient basis through our St. Joseph’s Pediatric clinic and Family Medicine Clinic.

We are making every effort to let your health plan know that most of the St. Joseph’s pediatric physicians are moving to Phoenix Children’s. Phoenix Children’s, like St. Joseph’s, is in the provider network for most health plans in the area.

What do I need to do?

If you need to schedule an appointment for any of the above services after June 1, 2011, or have questions about an existing appointment, please call Phoenix Children’s at 602-933-PCMG (7264).
